Hugo Garcia, Sr.
1936-2015
Hugo Garcia, Sr. went to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on July 20, 2015. The love of his life, and wife of 59 years, Hipolita Garcia was by his side, holding his hand while he was being welcomed home into Heaven. His entire family was present to watch him return home.
He was born on March 4, 1936 in Juarez, Mexico to José R. García and Petra J. Gonzalez. He was the oldest of 3 children and was loved dearly by his brother Aaron Garcia and sister Linda Sanchez. Hugo married his dear and precious wife, Hipolita Martinez on May 19, 1956 in Las Cruces, New Mexico whom he cared for and loved until his last breath.
Hugo loved this country and as a proud U.S. citizen, he served 23 years in the United States Army. Amongst his many military citations, he was awarded the RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Bronze Star for service in Vietnam. Hugo's military career lead him to many locations throughout the country and abroad. He retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant.
Brother Hugo was a life long member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in El Paso, Texas where he served as a deacon for 30 years. He actively served and participated in many leadership roles in the church with the choir, Sunday school, bus/van driver; youth counselor; VBS teacher and on and on. Serving God and raising a family that loved God was his mission in life. Brother Hugo loved serving others and he was instrumental in starting a Food Bank Ministry at Primera Iglesia where it is still an active ministry and serves the people of El Paso County.
Hugo Garcia was a great man of God; a faithful and loving husband; a loving and compassionate father; a grandfather; a great grandfather; a mentor; a soldier; a servant to others; a surrogate father; a mechanic; a jokester; a champion checker player and master thumb wrestler; a man of knowledge and a superhero to many- especially to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, José R. García and Petra J. Gonzalez; his son in law Andrew Reddell and his life long friends and family, Ruben and Elizabeth Angulo.
He is survived by the love of his life, his dear "sweetheart" Pola Garcia; his 5 children Araceli Sanchez and husband Juan, son Hugo Garcia, Jr.; son Joe Garcia and wife Stacy; daughter Rebecca Garcia; daughter Margarita Scouten and husband, William; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Pete Vaca and wife, Yesenia; Amanda Martinez and her husband, Mike; Jennifer Sanchez and partner, Anthony Cordova; Brittany Garcia, Zachary Garcia, Nathaniel Garcia, Alyssa Garcia, Andrew Scouten, Matthew Scouten, Joseph Sanchez, Nathaniel Cordova, Ruby Cordova, Jacob Cordova and twins Donovan and Dylan Cordova; many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family; and close family friends, Eve-Marie Hatheway and Ashley Zubia. Visitation: 2-3 PM with a Funeral Service from 3-5 PM Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Funeral Service 9:30 AM Monday, July 27, 2015 at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Committal Service will follow at 11:00 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
