Irene Austin

September 25, 1938 — December 20, 2015

Irene was born on September 25, 1938 in Spade, TX to Wiley and Floy Young. She graduated from Littlefield High School in 1956 and married Jerry Wayne Austin, her high school sweetheart on September 24, 1958. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage together and had 3 sons. Her children remember her as a kind and loving mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and to help others. Adopting people in crisis and helping them to recover was a special ministry she shared in with her husband and sons. The family moved to El Paso in 1972 where she worked with her husband Jerry in his Towing business and an Insurance appraisal franchise. She believed strongly in family and strived to keep peace and unity throughout her life. She was an active member of First Assembly of God for 40 years and more recently attended Life Worth Living Church. She loved to sing in the church choir and was involved in women’s ministry groups. Her commitment to her savior Jesus Christ was evident in all areas of her life and she frequently shared her faith with people who crossed her path. Her willingness to accept others, regardless of their downfalls, opened many doors of opportunity to shine the light of Christ and demonstrate His love to hurting people. She was an active member of the Five Points Lions club for many years and supported her husband Jerry in the Lions for Vision program. Irene was also an active member of the club TOPS TX 1723 of El Paso where she successfully reached her goal of losing 112 pounds in 10 years and was crowned Texas State Queen 1st runner-up in 2013. Irene Austin, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at the age of 77. Irene is survived by three sons Marlin Lee Wayne Austin of Albuquerque, NM, Timothy Glen Austin of Loveland, CO, and Gregory Scott Austin of El Paso, TX.
