In Loving Memory of Ismael Legarreta

March 1, 1955 - September 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness and loving hearts that we announce the passing of Ismael Legarreta, who peacefully left us on September 5, 2026, at the age of 71.

Ismael was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, godfather, mentor, friend, and man of faith. His life was defined by his love for his family, his devotion to God and his church, his commitment to education and service, and his desire to help others.

Born on March 1, 1955, to Ricardo and Maria del Refugio Legarreta, Ismael was raised with strong family values that remained at the center of his life.

He was the devoted husband of Ramona "Mona" Legarreta. He was a loving father to Michael Legarreta; David (Jessica) Legarreta; and Alexis (Peter) Lawless, and a Loving stepfather to Dennis J. Gomez Jr. and Kristen Lei (Conte) Richardson.

His greatest joys included his grandchildren: Calysta Legarreta, Matthew Legarreta, Isaiah Rios, Harrison Legarreta, Caelum Legarreta, and Bruno Lawless. He treasured his family and the memories they created together.

He is also survived by his sisters, Josie (Jesse) Padilla and Elva (Hector) Navar, and his brother, Danny (Ceci) Legarreta, along with his beloved godchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

He will also be deeply missed by his beloved dog, Simon, who was a cherished companion and an important part of his family.

A Man of Faith and Service

Ismael's faith was an important part of who he was. He gave generously of his time, talents, and heart to his church and to those in need.

He served as a Guide with Talleres de Oración y Vida (Prayer and Life Workshops), helping others strengthen their relationship with God. He served his church as a Lector, in Eucharistic Ministry, and through the Homebound Ministry, bringing prayer, companionship, and the Eucharist to those who could not attend church.

Ismael was also just one class away from completing his preparation to become a catechist teacher, a testament to his desire to continue learning and sharing his faith with others.

He did countless things for his church, often without seeking recognition. His service was simply another way he lived out his faith. He was always willing to lend a hand, share his knowledge, encourage someone, or help wherever he was needed.

A Life of Education, Leadership, and Service.

Ismael was a proud graduate of Bel Air High School, Class of 1973. During his high school years, he was an active and accomplished student. He served as President of the Spanish National Honor Society and was involved in VICA, Key Club, Architecture and Design, National Honor Society, and many other activities.

He was later honored as an Honorary Bel Air Executive, reflecting the lasting love and connection he maintained with his alma mater.

His commitment to education and young people continued throughout his life. Ismael served for nine years on the Ysleta School Board, representing the Bel Air High School community. He believed in the importance of education and in giving young people the opportunity to succeed.

He continued his education at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering.

A Distinguished Career

Ismael dedicated decades of his professional life to steel and structural engineering.

He was a co-owner of Ramsey Steel for 27 years and later worked with El Paso Steel/Kasco Structures for 26 years as a Structural Engineer.

He was a member of professional organizations including the American Institute of Steel Construction, American Welding Society, and Structural Engineers Association of Texas, among others.

Yet his greatest professional legacy may not have been the structures he helped design, but the people he helped build.

Ismael was a mentor to many, many people. He freely shared his knowledge, experience, advice, and encouragement. He opened doors for others, taught by example, and inspired people to pursue their goals.

A Lasting Legacy

Ismael leaves behind a legacy built not only in steel and structures, but in faith, family, education, service, friendship, and love.

He was a man who gave of himself-to his family, his church, his profession, his community, and to anyone who needed his guidance.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, intelligence, generosity, dedication, humor, strength, faith, and willingness to help others.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort knowing that the love, wisdom, faith, and memories he gave us will remain forever.

His life touched countless people, and his influence will continue through his children, grandchildren, family, friends, church family, colleagues, students, and the many people he mentored throughout his life.

Ismael's earthly work is complete, but the foundation he built will stand forever.

May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of God and reunited with those who went before him.

Visitation will be held at 8:30 am with a rosary at 9:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:15 am September 10, 2026, at San Antonio Catholic Church, 503 Hunter Dr.,
