J D Atkins

J.D. Atkins, beloved husband and father, died January 25, 2016, in El Paso, Texas. J.D. was born June 29, 1937, in Priceville, AL. He retired from the Army in 1979 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was proud to have fought in the Korean War and to have served two tours in Vietnam, where he received two Bronze Stars. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arelia, and his children: Randy Morris and wife, Dawne; Lynda Gates and husband, Larry; Peggy Morris; Anne Hammer and husband, Craig; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter Alice Hauger and her husband, Charles. He also is survived by his sister Evelyn Jeanette Parker Gilbert and brothers Bobby Joe Atkins and Donald Roy Atkins. A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 1, at Sunset Funeral Homes East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. in El Paso, followed by a Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
