Jack Chase Woods December 1927-December 2012. Colonel (Retired) Jack Chase Woods died December 31st of post-surgical complications. Col. Woods was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Woods; devoted father of Shari Villarosa, John Woods, and Jim Woods; and doting grandfather and great-grandfather of Kristina Woods, Michelle Donovan, Jack Woods, and Claire Donovan. Col. Woods was born in Berlin, New Hampshire into a family of horse trainers. He grew up in New England, Pennsylvania and Springfield, Illinois. He enlisted in the Army in 1944 and was commissioned an officer after attending Officer Candidate School. He served in Northern Italy and Vienna, Austria where he met Elizabeth McKinney. They married in 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. Col. Woods rose through the military ranks successfully serving in a variety of positions in Heidelberg and Mannheim, Germany; Ft. Lewis, Washington; Ft. Bliss, Texas; Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; Korea; Ft. Meade, Maryland; Ft. Leavenworth Kansas; the Pentagon, Vietnam; Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida; and Stuttgart, Germany. He was awarded the Silver Star and Soldier’s Medal for his heroic actions in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Col. Woods lived in Tampa, Florida and Tucson, Arizona before settling in El Paso, Texas in the early 1980s. Col. Woods kept active in his retirement with golf, skiing, fishing and fixing up BMWs. He frequently visited his sons in Colorado and each of his daughter’s overseas postings in Colombia, Ecuador, Thailand, Brazil, Indonesia, and Burma. At the time of his death, he was looking forward to spending Christmas with his sons in Colorado and then visiting his daughter in Mauritius in the New Year. Col.
