In the afternoon of March 31, 2025, Jack Edward Worthington Jr. peacefully passed in the company of his family from this life into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Fort Meade, Maryland on July 05, 1952, Jack was loved deeply by family, friends, and coworkers. Ever the masterful storyteller, Jack brought endless amounts of joy, laughter, and a spirit of service wherever he went. As a son, friend, brother, father, grandfather, partner, and colleague, Jack always sought to see that others had the help they needed on their own journeys. A devout patriot, Jack served first in the Army’s 82nd Airborne and then went on to serve his country as a civilian engineer for the overwhelming majority of his life, ensuring that those who put their lives on the line to protect America operated in the safest conditions they could while enduring such great risk. Over the course of his distinguished career, Jack received numerous accolades for his dedication to engineering excellence and integrity, including the Department of the Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Edward Worthington Sr. and Adelaide J. Worthington; his brothers, Edward L. Worthington Jr, Richard C. Worthington, and George E. Worthington; and lifelong best friend: Erasmo “Alfred” A. Lewis.
He is survived by his sibling, Dorothy E. Harrison; the mother of his children and partner of 25 years: Yvonne Buchanan; his four sons: Jack E. Worthington III, Jacob L. Worthington, Gregory M. Worthington, and Matthew R. Worthington; his daughters-in-law: Sarah Pahl Worthington and Jessica Reyna-Worthington; his 6 grand children: Tiana Rodriguez, Giselle Garibay, Amelia Worthington, Emanuel “Manu” Worthington, Emma Worthington, Isabel Worthington; his great-grandchild: Victor Rodriguez; and two of his lifelong best friends: James Saenz and Ernesto “Bino” Esparza.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00PM on Thursday, April, 24th, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, with a prayer service starting at 7:00pm. A second visitation will occur from 8:00-10:00AM on Friday, April 25th, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 25th, 2025 at 10:00AM at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. The Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery where Jack will lay to rest near his parents and brother.
