James C. (J.C.) Cox Jr. went to reside eternally with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 21, 2014. J.C. was born in Pecos, Texas to James and Lillie Cox on January 12, 1925. His family eventually moved to El Paso’s lower valley where they farmed and where J.C. graduated from Ysleta High School. In 1943 he married Leona Inez Christmas. J.C. served in the United States Army during WW II. In 1948, he became a member of the El Paso Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Assistant Chief of the department. He served the citizens of El Paso in that capacity for 28 years. J.C. had a deep abiding faith in God, attended church as long as his health permitted and served as a deacon in both Sunrise Baptist Church and Canutillo Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting and always looked forward to his yearly hunting trip with family members and friends. J.C. and Leona, the love of his life for 71 years, created a home filled with love and laughter. Together they raised four children: Cathy, Janice, John and Mary. J.C. is survived by his wife Leona, their four children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and his sister Ruth.
A celebration of J.C.’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
