Jan Raymond Rice

Jan Raymond Rice, 91, of El Paso, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Born on July 17, 1934 in Gary, Indiana, he graduated from Palacios High School in Palacios, Texas, then attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and the University of Texas at El Paso. Jan honorably served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, and in Mainz, Germany. On December 26, 1959, he married the love of his life, Lula Mae(Gray)Rice. Married for 66 years, Jan dedicated 35 years working in Civil Air Defense at Fort Bliss. A throat cancer survivor, he served as treasurer and president of the local Laryngectomy chapter, where he supported and encouraged fellow patients who had undergone laryngectomies due to cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor T. Rice and Marjorie S. Rice, and his brother, Julian T. Rice. Jan is survived by his beloved wife, Lula Rice of El Paso; his sister, Susan Dearborn of Colorado Springs, Colorado.He was blessed with 4 children. Victor T. Rice (Ramona) of Liberty, Texas. Deborah L.Talavera (David) of El Paso, Texas.Douglass R. Rice (Laurene) of Adkins, Texas. Frank H. Rice of El Paso, Texas. 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held February 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM Fort Bliss National Cemetery El Paso, Texas.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
