Jan Allen Weissbard, 63, died October 18, 2015 after battling cancer the previous 20 months, never losing his love, fight, humor or resilience till the end.
Mr. Weissbard was born the 26th of May 1952 in Bronx, NYC. He then moved to flushing Queens as a young boy, until he joined the Army in September 1974. Eventually retiring in 1994. In December 1975 he married the former Catalina Flores of Durango, MX.; shortly thereafter having their first-born son, Edward in July 1976 and then their second boy in December 1977. During his military career he rose to the rank of Sgt 1st Class while at the same time earning his Masters degree and LPC License.
After relocating to Arizona in 1987, he inherited a second set of children when his wife’s sister subsequently moved in with the family with an 11 month old son and a daughter on the way. Mr. Weissbard raised both kids, along with his own two boys, always referring to Ray and Elena Amaya as his own and he, being the only person they ever called dad. Elena even claims she was clearly his favorite. In March 2002 his 1st and only grandchild Cosette was born and he became a proud, doting grandpa, making sure to spoil her frequently.
He leaves behind his kids Edward, Joseph, Ray and Elena, along with his wife Catalina and her two sisters Felicitas and Francisca who also loved and mourn him like their own brother. He was preceded in death by his little sister, Sandra
The man was kind to all living things, selfless to a fault, made everyone around him laugh and always cared for his family and friends above himself. He was the most humble and genuine person you could ever meet.
