Javier F. Gardea

Javier F. Gardea, 74 passed away Friday, September 4, 2026

Javier was born on April 4, 1952. He graduated from Ysleta High School and was a music major at UTEP. During his early music career he played with bands like Malo and Sunny Ozuna, he lived in Hawaii for 17 years and played backup for Kenny Logans and George Benson. He continued his career as an integral member of El Paso Band for over 40 years.

Javier is preceded in death by his parents, Erasmo and Juanita Gardea, his sister Hilda and his 3 brothers Mike, Arturo and George Gardea. He leaves behind his wife Sylvia, daughter Amanda Davenport (6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren), sister Irma Borunda Gardea, stepdaughter Natalie Castillo and several nieces and nephews. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and an amazing friend to many in and around the music community in El Paso. 

Gathering will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with a Scripture Service at 6:00 pm Wednesday, October 07, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home- East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. El Paso, Texas 79915.
