J. D. Jones was born July 30, 1931 in Sulphur Springs, TX. He was the youngest of three brothers born to Austin and Minnie Lee Jones. He grew up in the community of Sulphur Springs. He united in the Baptist faith and was baptized at an early age, where he became a junior usher which was his passion. He attended and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and attended a junior college. Thereafter he was drafted into the United States Army, J.D. was a chef cook. He served army duties in different parts of the country. He retired at Fort Bliss, Texas in 1977 as a Sergeant First Class (SFC) with twenty years of faithful service to his country. J.D. was a member of El Paso Lodge number 244, serving as Secretary. J.D. Jones and Nezzie Watkins were united in Holy Matrimony on January 3, 1971. No children were born to this union. He joined new Zion Baptist Church where he became an usher. In later years he moved his membership to Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the Pastor Rev. James Larry Williams, where he followed his passion of being an usher (door keeper). He was a member of the Brotherhood Ministry Sunday School of the Church. A chef cook for many years until his health failed. J. D. Jones departed this life July 26, 2014. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Nezzie Jones, two cousins, Bobbie Thomas and Travis Thomas of Dallas, Texas, brother in law, John Henry Franklin, Marshall, Texas, sister in law, Minnie Ola Black, nephews and nieces all of Conroe, TX., and a host of friends. Visitation will be from 6pm-9pm Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home-East 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Service will be at 11:30 am Friday, August 1, 2014 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 3400 Wyoming. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014.
