Obituary for Jean Kathryn Watson
Lt. Col. Jean K. Watson, USA (Ret), longtime resident of Serenity House in El Paso, Texas died Monday April 18, 2016. She was born Dec 1, 1927 in Edgar Wisconsin, the youngest daughter of Leonard and Clara (Brown) Schultz. Jean graduated from Wausau High School and St. Mary’s Nursing College. She worked many years as a surgical nurse in the Army, and especially enjoyed her time serving in Germany. Notably, she served with 121st Evac-Korea 1963-1964, CP ZAMA Japan 1965-1967, WBAMC 1968-69, 24th Evac- Vietnam 1969-71. Her last assignment was at William Beaumont Army Medical Center 1971-74 in El Paso, Texas, where she subsequently retired. Jean often stated that as a nurse she loved all her patients equally. Her other passion besides nursing was cheering on her Green Bay Packers.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Hugh F. Watson (born Winfield KS), their infant son, and her sister Marie ‘Mickey’ Kordus. She is survived by her sister Betty (Schultz) Rau of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-son Michael Watson (Kim) of Colorado and her two step-grandchildren Monica Jean and John Watson.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
