Born in El Paso, Texas on July 2, 1927, Jesus "Chuy" Olivas, 88, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016. He attended and graduated from Bowie High School at the age of 17. He joined the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st class USNR in the Asiatic Pacific Area earning a World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in May of 1946. He retired from the Civil Service at Fort Bliss with 32 years of service. Chuy was an avid golfer and member of the Pan American Golf Association and the Professional Golf Association. He was the loving husband to Rosenda for 64 years, proud father of five children: Frank (Kathi) Olivas, David (Gloria) Olivas, Sylvia (Victor) Villagrana, Cynthia Garcia and Martha (Jorge) Matta. He had eight grandchildren: Richard, Katie, Sarah, Samuel, Elizabeth (Sebastian), Jorge, Jennifer, Nicole and three great grandchildren: Jordan, Isabella and Jack. The family request donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers. A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas, 9521 North Loop Dr. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be said at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Guardian Angel Catholic Church, 3021 Frutas Ave. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
