Joe Ray Brown devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, friend passed away November 15, 2015 to be with Our Lord. Joe is preceded in death by his father James Baskin Brown, Betty Rae Brown and granddaughter Claire Austin.
He was born in Amarillo, Texas, March 28th, 1943 and grew up in Stratford, TX. Most recently he was employed by WalMart Neighborhood Market. This was his fourth Grand Opening. He was a Diabetes Specialist, immunizing, consultant and a hospital pharmacist. Joe was past President of the El Paso Pharmacy Association and also past member of the Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Ohio, and Kentucky Pharmacy Associations. He had been the Officials Chair for four years for Border swimming and a swimming official since 2003. He served on many national decks and most recently a swim official for the University of Arizona. Left to cherish his memories are Rose his wife of 31 years, sons Joe Shane Eiden Brown of Tucson, Blair Brown and wife Patti of Panhandle; daughter Carrie Austin and husband David of Dallas; grandchildren: Carson Brown of Panhandle and Caroline and Anastasia Austin of Dallas; brother Jim Bob and Patty Brown of Stratford. He is also survived by one niece, one nephew and several loving cousins. Pallbearers: Steve Flato, Troy Cockerham, Humberto Silva, Hector Ortega, Joe Payan and Abel Uranga. Honorary pallbears Joe Henry Jiner, Blair Brown, Joe Shane Eiden Brown and Jim Bob Brown. The family would like to acknowledge Bonnie and Hector Ortega for going above and beyond the call of duty. Also to mom, Lala Eiden, for being my rock and my hero. Their love and support so greatly appreciated. Visitation will be 4:00pm- 9:00 pm, Friday November 20,2015, with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:30 pm at Sunset Funeral Home - East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015, St. Raphael's Parish, 2301 Zanzibar. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragosa. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
