John Wesley Heide

John Wesley Heide, 79, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on June 23, 2026. Born on September 14, 1946, in Chicago, Illinois, John lived a life defined by service, faith, loyalty, and love for his family. After graduating from high school, John answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served with honor during the Vietnam War. His courage and dedication during that time reflected the steadfast character he carried throughout his entire life. Faith was a cornerstone of John’s life. He was a devoted member of his local Baptist church, where he gave generously of his time and talents by building and maintaining the church library — a labor of love that left a lasting legacy for his congregation. John was an avid collector, spending years building impressive collections of both coins and stamps. His attention to detail and passion for history made these pursuits a true joy. On fall Sundays, you could find John cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys — a fan through thick and thin. Above all else, John loved his family deeply and was extraordinarily loyal to each and every member. His presence was a gift, and his devotion to those he loved will be remembered and cherished forever. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Heide; his daughter, Johanna Babcock, and his sister, Kay Heide. He is survived by his sister, Mary Raguse; his mother-in-law, Edelgard “Hilda” Gutierrez; his children, Wes Chick, Joe Chick, Nicholas Hoffter Von Heide, Monica Cruz, and Adela Gutierrez; and 11 cherished grandchildren who meant the world to him.

Services will be held at the Sunset Funeral Home Northeast at 4631 Hondo Pass in El Paso, TX at 4:00 PM.
