John Holland

John Austin Holland lost his valiant battle against Alzheimer’s on Saturday, October 3, 2015. John A. Holland was born in a small wood house in McAllen Texas on April 3rd, 1930. Soon after graduating from Texas A & M with an Engineering degree, he served two years in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant in The Korean War. He started his career with Honeywell as an Engineer in Dallas and in 1954 he was transferred by Honeywell to be in charge of the El Paso Branch Office. In 1958 he started Control & Equipment Company in El Paso, which is still in business to this day. John loved serving in different capacities such as; past president of the Downtown Rotary Club, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers, Texas A & M Former Students, Director of the Jesters (El Paso Chapter); Member of the El Maida Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He served on the Board of Trinity Methodist Church on Finance Committee as well as Chairman of the Property Committee. Additionally, he was one of the original members of the White Wing Fling, which was started in 1969. He was the Founding Father of The Black Widow Fish Fry which has continued on every single year since 1984. He was also a member of the Tuesday Night Poker Club. He cared very much about all the employees at Control & Equipment Company and the customers. His favorite pastimes were fishing, Dove & Quail hunting and Texas A & M Football. Another favorite for him was spending quality time with his wife, children, grandchildren and his friends. He was loved very much and will be missed by so many people. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lan Morgan Holland & Minnie O’Dell Holland; His brother O’Dell Holland and sister Doris Holland Parker. He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Clo Richardson Holland, three children: Catherine Holland, of Coppell, Texas; John Morgan Holland and his wife Kathryn Holland of El Paso, Texas, Jenny Holland Miller and husband Clay Miller of Mandeville, Louisiana, six grandchildren: Haley & Dale Miller of Mandeville, of Louisiana; Johnny Austin Holland & Megan Ashley Holland of El Paso; and Natalie & Michael Hudson of Coppell, Texas; his brother Nick Holland and wife Joy of Houston, TX, his sister Marty Conine of Midland, TX, Brother-in-law, David Richardson of San Angelo, TX and cousins and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM to 12:00PM on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home-West, with Funeral Service to follow at 1:15PM at Trinity First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Mesa. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa, NM at 3:00PM, with Military Honors. Celebration of John’s Life will be at the El Paso Country Club from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. The Holland Family wishes to thank the extra special, caring staff at the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans Home, where they each gave so much compassion and care to John.
