John Bedford Johnson, 73 passed away suddenly on Friday, July 28, 2017 of a massive heart attack.
John was born in Brownwood, Texas on January 14, 1944. He graduated from Odessa High School. He then was drafted into the Army and served as a medic in Vietnam.
After being honorably discharged from the military, after three years, he attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a BA in English and a minor in French.
He taught English, Drama, French, and music in various schools in the Socorro District. He was an organist in various churches in El Paso and also sang solos, played the flute, piano, and bassoon to honor God and for the congregation.
Johnny was also very talented in Art, his favorite medium being watercolor. He also enjoyed oil and encaustic painting. He received an MA in Drama. He loved the stage and spent many years acting in plays at the El Paso Playhouse.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; Forrest and Ulmer Johnson. He leaves behind his beloved wife of thirty one years, Vickie Beam Johnson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Andy Anderson, nieces Lindsay Fortese (Jimmy), Brittany Anderson and great nephew Jacob Fortese.
In his spare time he was the president of the AGO, docent at the El Paso Museum of Art, and a member of NSAL, as well as taking art classes.
A Memorial Service will be held for Johnny on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church on 3500 Pershing, El Paso, TX 79903. Burial will be private at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors.
