Sergeant Major (Ret.) John Clayton White, age 81, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 31, 1943, John lived a life grounded in honor, dedication, and deep love for those closest to him.

John served 28 years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. A decorated Vietnam War veteran, he earned four Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his bravery and distinguished service. His military career took him far from home, including service in Germany during the return of the American hostages from Iran. Through it all, John carried himself with quiet strength, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he served beside and led.

To his family, John was so much more than his uniform. He was a devoted husband to Melika White, a loving father to Toni, Nancy, and Conny, and a proud grandfather to Steven. His steady presence, guidance, and unwavering support shaped the lives of his family, and his love will continue to be felt in the generations that follow.

After retiring from the Army, John remained the same man his family and fellow soldiers had always known—strong, dependable, and deeply committed to the values he lived by. He will be remembered for his service to his country, his loyalty to those he loved, and the quiet example he set every day.

Sergeant Major John Clayton White’s life was one of service, sacrifice, and love. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who had the honor of knowing him.

A Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 pm, Friday, January 02, 2026, Sunset Funeral Home- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. A Committal Service will follow at 3:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso Tx 79906.
