Joe “Big O” Olvera passed away the morning of Saturday August 8, 2015.
Joe was born in Brownsville, Texas on August 19, 1929. He enlisted into the army at the age of 16 at the end of WWII. He survived multiple tours to Korea and Vietnam. As a step-father, he more than earned the title, Dad.
He retired from the Army in El Paso in 1971. He worked for K&D Construction, the Border Commission of El Paso, and later the El Paso Children’s Rehabilitation Center, where he retired from in 2001.
Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, Manuel & Anna Olvera; his son Manuel Olvera and his son Sammy Martinez. He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Dora Olvera; his son Tony Martinez; his granddaughters, Marissa Delk, Erika Orlaskey, Cassandra Martinez-Edwards, and Nichole Martinez; and three great- grandchildren.
