Jose Angel Rodriguez lived to be alive. He loved fiercely and laughed often. In his youth, he was a boxer and a baseball player, which is to say he was a romantic. He danced and ate watermelon and loved the sea. He was a fisherman, and like all fishermen taught others to fish too.
Jose, who was sometimes called Angel, spared no stranger kindness. He would open his home, gladly, to anyone he'd call a friend, and he made many friends in his life. He saw the light in people, the very best in them. It was a gift.
He ate menudo with family on Christmas mornings. Other mornings, he smuggled coffee and cookies to grandchildren. He combed his hair carefully every day and until his final day, kept a magnificent mustache.
He is survived, beloved, by Luz Maria, and his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
