Joseph Lewis McNutt, 84, passed away January 25, 2016. Mr. McNutt was born October 20, 1931 in Ft. Payne, Alabama. Joseph was a graduate of Valley Head High School and later received a degree in Electronics via the United States Army.
As a young man Joseph excelled in sports; especially baseball and boxing. In his age and weight bracket he held the Golden Glove championship of Alabama.
Later he was offered a minor league baseball contract by the Chicago White Socks but chose to serve his country during the Korean Crisis.
Joseph served proudly in the United States Army for over 20 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he distinguished himself as a communications technician. Joseph entered the armed forces as a private; his dedication, leadership skills and military bearing were observed and eventually earned him the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. His military career took him and his family all over the world. He ended his military service while at White Sands, New Mexico.
Upon retiring Joseph enjoyed collecting timepieces. His home was filled with all types of clocks from around the world which created a memorable audio collection from the Coo Coo's of the German timepieces and other interesting cacophonies of sounds. He loved automobiles and could often be found outside tinkering with his eclectic collection of cars.
Mr. McNutt was preceded in death by his wife Priska C. McNutt, two sons Claude W. and David W. McNutt of El Paso, Texas and a daughter Bonita Hanson of Roseburg, Oregon. He leaves behind two sons Joseph McNutt of Kennesaw, Georgia and Dale W. McNutt of El Paso, Texas, a younger brother Benjamin of Georgia and sister Jane of Alabama.
Visitation will be 9:00AM–10:00AM with a Prayer Service at 10:00AM on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Interment will follow at 11:00AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
