Josephine Smiley passed away August 28, 2013 at the age of 94 years and 10 months. She was born October 28, 1918 in Milford, Nebraska. She married the love of her life, Herb Smiley, May 18, 1941 and their love and devotion continued for 72 years. Josephine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She made a home for us no matter where the Army moved us. She told Herb “You make the living and I will make the living worthwhile”. And she did. She was always quick witted, and ready to play a hand of cards or feed you. She had a talent for cooking and could feed an Army at the drop of a hat. She could also improve the flavor of a sauce by just adding her thumb to it!
Josephine has been a member of the Eastern Star for over 70 years. She was a past President of the Methodist Women’s Society, a member of the Cloudcroft Senior Center and volunteered in the James Canyon Fire Department. They are members of Tobin Park United Methodist Church.
Josephine was preceded in death by their son Roger and granddaughter Valerie.
She leaves behind a loving family so grateful for her love and support. She will be deeply missed. What a legacy of love she has left us!
Leaving behind is her husband Herb Smiley of 72 years, 3 daughters Marcia, Cheryl and Karen and husband Mike also, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 12:00PM -1:00PM with Funeral Service following at 1:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, Texas. Internment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
