Juan “Johnny” Ortiz, 72. Went to be with the Lord February 16th 2014, at his home in El Paso, TX after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Topeka, KS to Domingo and Joaquina Ortiz. Johnny served in the US Army and retired after 23 years and Saint Francis after 22 years of dedicated service. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Auda Ortiz. He is survived by his wife Auda and children, Elizabeth (Roger), Anthony, Sandra (Brian), Raul (Nancy), two brothers Felipe Ortiz of Topeka and Cato Ortiz (Roberta) Plant City, FL, sisters Marcella Ortiz and half-sister Rochelle Vega-Muniz both of Topeka. Two grandsons Dalton and Alejandro along with many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Johnny will lay in state at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., a Holy Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated on 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the St. Michael’s Chapel on Fort Bliss. Cremation will follow. Graveside Services With full military honors will be held at a later date at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
