Julia Cassiano, 78, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013. She had battled MS for most of her adult life but, was always optimistic about her future. Preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Raul Cassiano, mother Concepcion Avina, father Jesus Avina, and brothers Pete and Ignacio Avina. She is survived by her sons Daniel and Samuel Cassiano, sisters; Adeline, Jennie, Connie, and brother Jess, 10 nieces, 7 nephews and countless friends from Europe to the Far East and America. She was a graduate of Centennial High School in Pueblo Colorado, married her husband Raul in 1955 and began her magnificent journey as an army wife and mother. From the Presidio of San Francisco to Heidelberg Germany, Paris, France to Tokyo, Japan, she made many lasting friendships along the way. Her favorite movies were Gone with the Wind, African Queen, True Grit and Driving Miss Daisy. She loved most popular music from the Beatles to Herb Alpert and loved to listen to the radio while having her morning coffee. She was an amazing woman of strength and compassion and will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 7:00pm on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Committal Service will begin at 10:00am, Monday, August 12, 2013 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
