JULIA GONZALEZ, 84
Julia Gonzalez, age 84, died peacefully on August 19, 2016 at the Sagecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where she spent the last three months of her life. Julia was born April 12, 1932, in Porvenir, Chihuahua, to the late Manuel Ronquillo and Andrea Salas.
As a young lady, Julia thoroughly enjoyed dancing, bike riding, sewing and playing basketball. However, her youth was cut short when as a young lady, she came from her home town in Mexico to work in the United States where she later took up permanent residency in 1956 and eventually became a U.S. citizen.
In 1956, Julia married Mr. Aurelio Gonzalez and shortly thereafter settled down in her permanent home in Sunland Park, New Mexico, where she lived until early this year. Aurelio worked a number of different jobs on and off until he was unable to work due health issues. Julia worked as a Sewing Machine Operator most of her married life until she retired in 1994 at the age of 62 due to her deteriorating health. In addition to working a full time job out of necessity most of her adult life; Julia struggled to raise five children while taking on the responsibility at times of primary breadwinner for the family during her husband’s long time illnesses.
Julia accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior in November 1980 and was faithful in church attendance until late in life when she was no longer physically able to attend a local church. She believed in the cause and continued to be faithful in her charitable contributions until her last days.
Julia is survived by her four sons, Humberto and his wife Olivia, Oscar, Arturo and his wife Martha, and Aurelio Jr.; daughter, Yolanda and her husband Richard; two brothers, Manuel and Roberto; eight sisters, Consuelo, Manuela, Luisa and her husband David, Paula, Elisa, Linda, Berta and Benita; nineteen grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Wednesday at 7pm. Funeral Service will be on Thursday at 10am followed by interment at Memory Gardens of the Valley in Santa Teresa.
