June Maria Sadowski Kruszewski

September 10, 1932 — April 10, 2015

June Kruszewski, 82, passed away peacefully Friday 4/10/15. June was born 9/10/32 in Bydoszcz, Poland to Julian Sadowski and Mary Misiewicz Sadowski. Her father was a musician and former officer of the Polish Army in the Polish-Bolshevik war in 1919-1921 and then an official of the US Herbert Hoover Agency to save children from World War I in Poland. Her mother was a Chicago-born American living in Poland. June and her mother survived the horrors of the German Nazi occupation and the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 as well as the imposition of the Communist terror in Poland after 1945. She was finally, in 1950, allowed by the Communists to rejoin her mother in the USA where surprisingly she also met her father after eleven years. Miraculously he survived his capture by the Soviets and the death in the Katyń massacre of 14,000 Polish officers in 1940. June, the beloved wife of 60 years of Z. Anthony Kruszewski graduated from UTEP in Spanish and then wrote the thesis in the Spanish language on Calderon for an MA with Honors. She joined the faculty of St. Clement’s – teaching Spanish for 15 years there. In recognition of her cultural contributions as an actress for over 16 years in the Polish Repertory Theater “Nasza Reduta” in Chicago, an Endowed Professorship in her name was founded in 2009 in UTEP’s Theater Department. A tragic loss of a best possible wife and a life partner, strong dynamic woman role model has devastated her husband and all who knew and cherished her. In lieu of flowers donations in her honor may be made to the June Kruszewski Memorial Scholarship Fund in the Political Science Department of UTEP. The memorial service will be held at noon, April 20 at St. Raphael Church, 2301 Zanzibar. Burial the following weak in the family tomb at the historic Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw, Poland.
