Leana Mae Gantt

November 24, 1946 — November 24, 2022

El Paso

Mother Leana Mae Gantt was born on November 24, 1946, to Ray Vaugh and Hattie Olivia Wynne (both now deceased).  She left this life for her heavenly reward in the early evening of Thursday, November 24, 2022.

After many trials in her earlier life in Chicago and elsewhere, she finally arrived in El Paso, Texas, joined the Holy Light Church of God in Christ where she became further acquainted with Jesus her Lord, and met and married Paul Gantt who also was seeking to know Jesus better.  The two were married on September 28, 1983, at the Holy Light Church of God in Christ. Her beloved Husband of thirty-four years predeceased her in 2017.

Leana Gantt (who became our Church Clerk, our Chair of the Usher Board, and one of our sainted Church Mothers—to name only a few of her positions over the years) along with Paul Gantt (who became an ordained Elder and our prison minister) worked diligently in various ministries of the Holy Light Church. The Gantts were major contributors to the church’s growth and success.  During their loving marriage, Mother Gantt and Paul Gantt, due to difficult family situations, decided to rear and adopt two of Mother Gantt’s grandchildren, Britton and James.  They provided a loving and stable Christian home for their now two sons until they were grown.

Mother Leana Gantt will be remembered by her Holy Light Church Family for her steadfast Christian witness and work in our church family.  She was truly salt to the earth and a light to the world.

Mother Gantt leaves to mourn her children, Bridgett and Natalie; her sons Britton and James; her sisters, Eissie Lee Everett and Hattie Mae Mason; her brother, Ray Wynne; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great grandchildren, and her devoted friends along with her Holy Light Church of God  in Christ Family.
