Leroy John Harrington, Jr., was born March 27, 1925, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He passed away November 12, at age 90. Leroy grew up in Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He graduated in 1948 with a degree in industrial engineering, and as an alumni enthusiastically supported the Razorbacks. He enjoyed participating in and following sports. Favorites were football, basketball, golf, and tennis. Leroy was a World War II Navy veteran. In 1965 Leroy moved to El Paso with his wife Jeannie and their three daughters. He served as General Agent for The Aetna Life Insurance Company and was a partner with Sunbelt Insurance Agency. Leroy was a wonderful man with a big heart and a generous spirit who lived to serve and make life more wonderful for others. His welcome smile (and occasional pranks or clever wit) brightened the day of everyone he encountered. He was a stalwart member of Trinity First United Methodist Church for the past 50 years, supporting many programs of the church. Leroy will be especially remembered as energetic and fun, and for spoiling his wife Jeannie in every way possible. Leroy led a great life. He was a gentleman in every situation to the end of his life. He most likely is welcomed into heaven with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and welcomed by his wife Jeannie who is telling him, “Leroy, you can’t tell any story that dates back over 20 years.” Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jean Harrington and his parents, Ophelia Brewster Harrington and Leroy John Harrington, Sr, his brother Brewster Harrington and sister Nancy Harrington Currey. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Jeannie and Phil Buskirk, Nan Napier and Sammy Paredes, and Becky and Don Houghton, and by grandchildren Stefan Pharies, Alice Carter, Hilary Pharies, Rebecca Napier-Moore, Creed Napier and Gentrye Houghton, and 7 great grandchildren. Leroy was doted on and delightfully pampered in his last years by caregiver Yolanda Gonzalez, a family friend for over 25 years, and her extended family. A service honoring the life of Leroy Harrington will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 21, at Trinity First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Mesa St, El Paso, TX.
