Liam Trust Cooney

October 16, 1997 — February 5, 2022

Liam Trust Cooney, 24, of Las Cruces, NM, passed away Sunday, January 30th, 2022. He was born the son of Stephen Edward Cooney and Teresa Angelique Cooney on October 16, 1997 in El Paso, Texas. Liam Trust Cooney, our son, our brother, uncle, cousin, grandson and friend. We also affectionately knew him, Lem, a boy named maiL spelled backwards, Buddy and ‘Liam the Lion’. A lion he was. Liam, our gentle lion was gifted to us all on October 16, 1997 in El Paso, Texas at Sierra Hospital with his sharp blue eyes, blonde hair and unforgettable dimples east and west of his disarming and innocent smile. Liam’s formative educational years were spent at his family’s church home, a Jesus-centered haven and proving ground, Bethel Temple Mountaintop, followed by the Community of Faith Christian School, Westside Baptist Academy, then on to graduate from Coronado High School in 2014. Everywhere Liam worked and went he was loved and celebrated by his clients and colleagues. Liam earned his certification in CNC machining at El Paso Community College and devoted his talents to Collectors Gun Exchange, Texas Saw Sharpening, Redoe Mold and First National Bank. When Liam entered the room his beautiful presence was felt. He would greet us with his precious “hello family’ or grace you with a “surprise hug,” when you needed it the most. He loved mechanical engineering, aviation, and weaponry. He was a wealth of complex knowledge and he eagerly shared it. Liam boldly, and relentlessly witnessed the Gospel of Christ to strangers and friends, young and old, everywhere he went. He particularly invested his time into his little nephews and had a beautiful silliness about him when with them. He had a brilliant mind that was naturally gifted with research, harboring information and interests far beyond that expected of his age at any given time. He had a kind and gentle soul. Liam loved and served the Lord earnestly in all his actions and spoken words. Liam suffered with narcolepsy which aggravated other medical issues, he fought hard and was selflessly faithful to his conscience, even to his last breath. Liam is received in heaven by his maternal grandparents John D. Tubbs and Marilyn A. Tubbs, his paternal grandmother, Maria G. Cooney ‘Lupe’. The remainder of his earthly family eagerly awaits to meet him again to the usual endearing greeting of “hello family” … He is survived by his parents, Stephen E. Cooney and Teresa A. Cooney, his grandfather, Papa Johnny Cooney, his 4 sisters and 3 brothers, Paige E. Grant, Haley R. Grant, Stephanie (Nitah) A. Cooney, Molly G. Kang, married to Eugene Kang, Quinntess R. Cooney, Levi S. Cooney, Asher W. Cooney, and Seth W. Cooney. His 3 nephews, Elijah C. Kang, Amadeus “Dae-Dae” I. Kang, and Malachai H. Kang, as well as a host of other loving relatives and friends. A Celebration of Liam’s life will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Westside Baptist Temple Church at 901 W. Borderland Road and his earthly body will be laid to rest at Mt. Carmel Cemetery following the service with Pastor Dr. Carl Chitwood officiating. One of Liam’s missions in life was to create a shelter for hurting and battered women and families where they can experience the healing and love of Christ.
