On October 28, 2015, El Paso TX lost one of its most ardent supporters,
Louise E. Gelsthorpe .
Louise lived life out loud and as an exclamation point! She did that by being an active member of so many organizations. She was a “forever” member of Beta Sigma Phi, Laureate Epsilon Psi Chapter. During her Sorority years she served as Chapter President and City Council President. The Woman’s Club of El Paso played a huge part in her life. She served as President, as well as Chairman of the Book and Arts and Crafts Clubs. Her love of reading and books was evidenced in her devotion to the Annual Book Fair. Louise was a tireless supporter and fundraiser for every organization she was a part of ~ including the UTEP Woman’s Auxiliary, where she had served as President. Other organizations who benefited from Louise’s dedicated membership & volunteering include American Business Woman’s Association, The Red Hat Society, Lower Valley Woman’s Club, Society of Military Widows, Woman’s Department of El Paso Chamber of Commerce, Retired Officers Wive’s Club, Discover El Paso, KCOS, International Goodwill Santa & William Beaumont Hospital Volunteers. Friends and family will also remember Louise or Mom-isms like “If wishes were horses beggars would ride”, “If you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all” and more recently she told a physician “Worry is the Rust of Life”.
Louise Elizabeth Goers Hudson Gelsthorpe was an amazing woman and she will be sorely missed. We can only hope to follow her example of American pride, community involvement and the spirit of friendship.
