Apá, Dad……. our father, Luis Duenas, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024, peacefully at his home at the age of 87, his family by his side. He was born August 1936 to Gregorio and Esperanza Duenas in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Apá was an incredible man who loved his family so much. The oldest of the family, he didn’t have much opportunity for an education. He worked hard all his life working at a very young age to help his mother and siblings, taking odd jobs from shoe-shining to grocery bagging. He became a route salesman for El Paso local dairies. He married Mom in 1958, a beautiful blue-eyed woman, and soon started his own family. Mom the caretaker and glue of the family, Dad the leader and provider, together they prepared their family to succeed and weather the storms of life.
Dad was a true “luchador.” Not only a luchador of life but a luchador of the sport Lucha Libre. El Médico Blanco, El Médico, El “Santito” as his fans called him. He was a técnico or the “good guy.” He truly loved wrestling. He was not in the big league of wrestlers, however, one of his proudest moments in wrestling was when he got the opportunity to wrestle alongside the legendary El Santo in a team match at the Plaza Balderas in Juarez. Dad never lost his mask nor his championship belt during his wrestling career.
He was a family man who loved not only his immediate and extended family but even those close friends who he made family. For Christmas, it was such a joy for him to give out hundreds of toys to the boys and girls who were at the arena and many cakes and flowers to all the mothers for Mother’s Day. He loved giving back. He touched many lives and brought laughter to all who knew him. His smile was contagious. He was a generous man and will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
He is preceded in death by his father Gregorio Duenas, mother Esperanza Aguilar, step-father Margarito Aguilar, and brother Alberto Aguilar.
He is survived by our mother and faithful wife of 65 years, Hermelinda Duenas; his sons, Jose Luis, Raymundo, Sergio and Saul Duenas; his daughters, Alma Rosa Duenas Alarcon and Sandra Duenas; son-in-law, Johnny Alarcon; daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Christy Duenas and Gabby Silva; grandchildren, Juan Jose and Yesenia, Armando and Rocio, Sarah, Valerie, Erika and Priscilla, Aubrey, Justin, Savanna, and Eileen, Andrew, Brandon, and Lilly, Emma and Eddie; greatgrandchildren, Jeremiah, Kora and Violet, Gabriel and Emilia, Elijah and Easton, Charlotte, Kai and Amani, Luca, Emmanuel and Elisa, Landon and Ellee; sister, Adela Hernandez; and brothers, Gregorio Duenas, Richard Aguilar and Lorenzo Aguilar.
