Madlyne C. Guthrie

Madlyne Carlson Guthrie Age 94, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went home to be with our Lord on July 5, 2016. She was born in El Paso, TX on April 4, 1922. Her parents were Adela and Carl Carlson. She was a lifetime resident in El Paso. Madlyne was a talented, classical singer and graduated from Yale University School of Music in 1953, where she performed leading roles in various operas, oratorios, and other musical productions. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Schӧn Renee vocal scholarship to continue her studies in Germany. Later, she received her master’s degree in Education from UTEP. Madlyne’s career path lead her from being an elementary school teacher to a foreign language and social studies consultant with EPISD until her retirement in 1992. Madlyne is preceded in death by her parents, Adela and Carl, her brother Robert Carlson, and her sister Martha Martin. She is survived by her sons, Ronald and Robert Guthrie and her daughter Kirsten Harvey; her grandchildren Brandon Guthrie, Ashley Freeman-Guthrie, David Guthrie, Kira Harvey, Christopher Harvey and her great-grandson Colin Freeman-Guthrie. She is also survived by her in-laws Patricia Guthrie, Larry Harvey, Dixie Guthrie, Charlene Becker, Chason Miller, Braddock and Claire Becker. Visitation will begin at 10am with a Funeral Service at 11am on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N. Carolina Dr., El Paso, TX. A Committal Service will follow at 1pm at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St., El Paso, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Madlyne C, Guthrie to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
