Marcos, 97, a man of quiet faith and dedication, passed away on December 17, 2025. He was born on December 1, 1928, and lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evangelina, and his brother, Lorenzo Balbuena (Cindy). He is survived by his children, Lorenzo (Maria) and Sylvia (Ernesto); his siblings, Luis Balbuena (Bertha), Francisco Simental, and Mary Smith; his grandchildren, Marcos (Sulema), Lorenzo II (Jeanette) and Erica (Isaac); and his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Adam, Anthony, Adriana, Aliyah, Nathan, and Emery.
He attended Zavala Elementary, began working at a very young age, washing plates and delivering flowers. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, operating a crane in Anchorage, Alaska, and later serving as an MP in Kansas City. He returned to a long career with the El Paso city street department, retiring in 1987. An avid athlete and a loyal fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Dallas Cowboys, he found his greatest joy in his family.
A devout Catholic, his faith was the cornerstone of his life. He will be remembered for his integrity, his gentle strength, and his unwavering devotion as a father and grandfather. The memory of his love and the time spent with his family will be cherished forever.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM, Friday, December 26, 2025 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina. Rosary will follow at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:00 PM at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 518 Gallagher. Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza.
