Maria Elena Correa

Maria Elena Correa, 82, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2026. 

Maria Elena was born in Torreón Mexico. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1969.

Maria Elena worked for the Ysleta Independent School District for over thirty years and retired in 2004. After retirement, she continued to tutor students in the district for the next 20 years. She loved to teach, it was her passion. She was an excellent teacher and mentor.

She enjoyed watching sports and Jeopardy on TV. She also loved and traveling, especially to Las Vegas, and was an avid walker in the community. Maria Elena took great pride in caring for her yard, tending to the grass, shrubs, and trees that made her home a welcoming and cared for place.

Maria Elena was preceded in death by her parents Salvador Garcia and Frances Castillo, her stepfather Alfonso Castillo, and her husband Fernando Correa. She was a wonderful mother, sister, and friend. Maria Elena will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter Diana Garcia and siblings Salvador Garcia, Rodolfo Garcia, Alfonso Castillo Jr., Patricia Bautista, Virginia Torres, David Castillo, Corrine Stovall, and Richard Castillo.

Gathering will be held at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday October 22, 2026 with a Rosary at 5:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East.
