Maria "Cuca" Chavez

Maria R. Chavez, 71, passed away on November 18, 2025. Maria was born in El Paso, Texas on February 24, 1954, to Manuel Soto and Amalia Holguin. She graduated from Clint High School in 1972. Maria worked as a single mother at several companies through her life. Her unwavering and selfless love for her children (Pamela and Thomas) created a bond that shaped their lives and a close relationship that will be forever cherished and deeply missed. Maria retired in 2016 from Texas Department of Transportation. She spent her retirement enjoying her love for shopping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson. Her grandchildren were the light of her world. Maria also loved spending time with her sisters and friends and was always the life of the party. Everyone who was blessed to know Maria felt her love for her family and her love for the beautiful life she built. Maria is preceded in death by her parents; Manuel Soto and Amalia Holguin, sisters; Maria T. Soto, Beatrice Cantu, Francis Vargas, brothers; Pete Soto, Manuel Soto, Gilberto Soto, Antonio Soto. Maria is survived by her daughter; Pamela Chavez, son; Thomas Chavez (Stacy), 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:00 pm, Monday, December 1, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 12200 Vista Del Sol. Interment will follow at 11:00 am at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza.
