Maria Elsa Pope was born on December 9,1948 in Laredo, Texas to parents, Margarita and Jose A. Campos. Maria was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on April 15th, 2023. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was fun loving, hilarious, kind, hardworking, determined, generous and Godly. Elsa took great pleasure in serving God, family, and her community.

For over 30 years, she enjoyed a successful career teaching young minds at Franklin High School and among other schools the wonders of science. She dedicated herself to being a mentor, sharing her knowledge and compassion while caring for her students. Taught early on to always achieve excellence and strive for higher education, Elsa earned her Master of Science in Physics.

Known for her hospitality, warmth, and jovial nature, she always had the amazing ability to find the fun in any situation. She was passionate about sports, especially tennis, which she loved playing with her kids and friends.

She enjoyed spending time with her 6 grandchildren, gardening, cooking and playing with her dogs. Elsa was a truly radiant soul, with the most mesmerizing pair of crystal blue eyes. Her warm smile, grace, and unparalleled beauty will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in passing by her parents, Jose Alonso and Margarita Campos; husband, Dr. Henry Pope, and sister, Dr. Sara Campos Carrasco. Left to cherish her beautiful memory are her children, Marco Pope, Dr. Stefan Pope (Alejandra Peña), Nadia Pope, and Rodrigo Pope (Quisa Reyes); and beloved grandchildren, Vincent, Natalie, Stefan, Sebastian, Sienna, and Santiago Pope.
