Maria H. Torres

Maria H. (De La Paz) Torres, 85, died on March 2, 2015. Born January 10, 1930 in El Paso, she was the daughter of Gregorio and Donaciana Holguin. A graduate of St. Ignatius, 'Pazi' worked as a stock girl at the White House department store during WWII. She graduated from El Paso Technical Institute, then worked as a switchboard operator before marrying Manuel Ernesto Torres on September 25, 1949. They lived briefly in Los Angeles before returning to El Paso to raise two sons. Maria worked in civil service and retired from the Social Security Administration after thirty years. She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and siblings, Manuela, Leandra, Alfonso, Fidel, Romana, Mauro, Alejandro, and Martha. Survivors include her sons, Manuel (Victoria), Green Bay, and Enrique (Patricia), El Paso; grandchildren, Michelle Sanford (Marcus) and Michael (Crystal), Green Bay; Vanessa (Jeff), South Lyon; Alejandro, Nashville; Briana (Joshua), Dallas; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held Monday, March 9, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle. Rosary at 9:00 AM, followed immediately by Funeral Mass. Family will hold a private interment at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
