Marjorie E. Sturdy died on March 8, 2016. She was born at home in rural Greenwood County, Kansas, on November 15, 1924, the third child of Raymond and Mildred (Wilson) Smith. She grew up with her family in the oil fields of Butler County, Kansas. She graduated from Reece, Kansas, High School and attended college. She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Sturdy; her parents Raymond and Mildred Smith; sister Mary Louise Smith; brothers William D. Smith and Charles R. Smith. Survived by daughter Marla J. Shin, brother Wilbur E. Smith and wife Charlotte Smith, many nephews, nieces and friends, including the students at St. Mark’s School where she worked in the cafeteria until last May. Marjorie spent her life serving her church in any capacity she could fill, for many years working as a church secretary. She considered herself a professional volunteer after her husband died, serving at a hospice for cancer patients for many years. It is impossible to count the lives she touched during her 91 years, and in touching, improved.
