Mary Heins

Mary Heins. Born Mary Fink in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Rose and Joe Fink on August 18, 1930, Mary was the youngest of four children. She was preceded in death by brothers Alfred and Milton Fink and sister Helen (Goldberg). Mary grew up in Kentucky, and after graduating from high school she met the love of her life, Jay Heins, husband of 63 years. Mary and Jay moved to El Paso in 1950. Mary was a high school math teacher for thirty years, helped Jay in the family restaurant business, served as director of religious education at Temple Mt. Sinai, was a founding member of El Paso Opera, and a driving force within the arts community. Mary is survived by her adoring husband Jay, children Mark (Jackie), Amy Goldfarb (Allan), Barry (Tracy) and Andy (Leslie); loving grandmother to Carroll-Anne, Sarah, Meredith, Shelley, Judith (Ryan), Aaron (Rebecca), Ben, Kelsey, Matthew, and Emily. The family extends its deep appreciation and thanks to Drs. Branch Craige, Glenn Halff, Raul Portillo and Jaime Villalva, R.N., as well as Marybeth Medicke, Myriam Serna, and La Mariposa Hospice. Funeral service will be held at Temple Mt. Sinai, 4408 North Stanton, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with interment immediately following at Temple Mt. Sinai Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ken Goldberg, Aaron Goldfarb, Allan Goldfarb, Tommy Goldfarb, Ben Heins, Matthew Heins, Ryan Jacobson, David Smith, and Edward Wise. Honorary pallbearers: Mel Levenson, Bobby Goldfarb, John Lavis, Jack Eisenberg, Branch Craige, Robert Young, Jon Goldberg and Joe Goldberg. Donations honoring Mary’s life may be made to the El Paso Community Foundation Mary and Jay Heins Charitable Fund which benefits arts and education (333 N.
