Mary C. Shamy, 85, was called home to the Lord on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
She was born in El Paso, TX on July 20, 1941. On May 5, 1962, she married the love of her life, Robert G. Shamy. She is survived by her husband, Robert, children, Evelyn Ortega, Patricia Bolton, Robert A. (Maria) and Christopher. She also has 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Rolando Valdepenas, who she considered and loved as her son.
Mary was the youngest of 7 children. She was predeceased by her parents, Antonio & Luz Campas, brothers, Jose (Joe), Rafael (Lito), Carlos (Charlie), Adalberto (Beti), and sister, Mercedes (Mercy). She is survived by her sister, Evey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary loved the Lord and His Blessed Mother. She had a soft spot for her 4-legged children as well. Her joy later in life was her cat colony that took up residence in their backyard and her “indoor baby”, Bubba.
Public visitation will take place, Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Sunset Funeral Home, 4631 Hondo Pass, from 5p – 8p, with Rosary beginning at 6pm. Requiem Mass will be held Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Road, at 11:30 am. Burial will be immediately after at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert A. Shamy, Christopher K. Shamy, Michael Ortega, Eric J. Martinez, Samuel Urenda and Jose Luis Martinez.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at the Centers At Zaragoza, GoodLife Senior Living and Memory Care, Southern Sky Hospice and Enhabit Hospice for the wonderful, loving care she received. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of El Paso.
