Mereane O’Brien Taetuli, 79 years of age, was welcomed into God’s arms on Thursday, June 19, 2025, in El Paso, Texas, surrounded by the unwavering love of her family. Known for her grace, steadfast faith, compassionate heart, and humble spirit, she was a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, loyal sister, adoring grandmother, proud great-grandmother, loving aunt and a treasured friend to many. Above all else, she was a prayer warrior, whose unquestionable devotion to God and persevering prayers uplifted her family, friends, and community.
Despite her many blessings and accomplishments, she carried herself with quiet humility, always putting others before herself and serving with a gentle heart. Her life was a shining example of faith and love, beautifully reflected in the words of Psalm 23:6: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Throughout her journey, she embodied strength, dignity, and joyful resilience—the very virtues expressed in Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Her steadfast prayers, unshakeable faith, humility, and love for others were a guiding light to all who knew her.
Mereane O’Brien Taetuli was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Mulipola Uelese O’Brien and Avaavau O’Brien, and by her devoted husband and life companion, Reverend Sani Taetuli. She is survived by her loving children: Taetuli Sani (Vulu Sani), Agaitupu L. Ainu’u Savusa (Vet. Army CPT. Chaplain Tafeaga Savusa), RET. SFC. Vaitogi Taetuli (Leti Taetuli), RET. Army COL. Tafao Ainu’u (Jessica Dias Tafao), Avaavau Tiara Ainu’u Buckingham (George Buckingham), O’Brien Uelese Ainu’u (Shauna Ainu’u) and Asenati Hosea (Ofa Hosea). She is also mourned by her siblings: Filifaiesea Kilifi O’Brien, Susie Alofaituli, Asenati Easley, Marie Tyrell, and Pastor Jack O’Brien; sixteen beloved grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a vast extended family and circle of friends whose lives she enriched immeasurably. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and service will be remembered with enduring admiration and heartfelt gratitude, as her family and loved ones find comfort in the words of John 14:2–3: “In my Father’s house are many rooms… I go to prepare a place for you.”
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Homes–West, located at 480 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 10:00 AM, honoring Mrs. Taetuli’s life, legacy, and the profound impact she had on those around her. As her loved ones gather in remembrance, they do so with the assurance of 2 Corinthians 5:8: “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes–West El Paso with the utmost care and respect.
