Michael “Mike” Cormier was born on April 5, 1951 in Woburn Massachusetts to Martin Cormier and Dorothy Cormier (Maher). He was the first sibling followed by Donna, Patti, MJ, and Tommy. He learned how to play piano as a child and continued to play throughout his life, playing in a few bands along the way. He loved The Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Marley. His first car was a Pontiac GTO. He served in the military from 1971 to 1975 as an army medic. Mike loved nature, energy conservation and protecting the environment. He was an avid conservator of electricity, even if it was just a ceiling fan that was on at high speed rather than medium speed. He worked construction jobs building passive solar homes and had a talent for building amazing fireplaces and adobe arches. His last job was building solar stills that were used to purify water in places without clean water. Toward the end of his life, he had frequent visits to William Beamont Medical Center. He wrote about the amazing care he received and was incredibly grateful for. He also wrote about his friends Greg and George who supported him in his frequent visits to the hospital. He called them the WASG – Wicked Awesome Support Group. Mike always tried to make people laugh during everyday interactions with the grocery store clerk, waiter or any other random stranger. He kept a positive attitude despite his declining health and will always be an inspiration to look on the bright side of things and remember what is truly important. He is survived by his son, Joe who lives in Charlottesville, VA with his children Lena and Aaron and by his daughter, Jessica who lives in Tijeras, NM with two stepchildren, Rustin and Lily. He will also be remembered fondly by his former wife, Marie Cormier (Laws) who lives in Chaparral, NM. Mike passed away on April 25, 2026, at home in El Paso, TX. His family will have a small ceremony to spread his ashes, placing him back into the Earth that he loved.
