Major (Ret.) Michael Dean Lister
It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Lister, who departed this life peacefully on September 27, 2025 at the age of 66, surrounded by his beloved family.
A proud patriot, Mike dedicated his life to the service of his country, both in uniform and beyond. His distinguished military career spanned 20 years, during which he served with honor and integrity in the United States Army. Following his retirement as a Major, he continued his commitment to public service as a respected government employee at Fort Bliss, where he remained a pillar of dedication and excellence until his final years.
Mike was a man defined by quiet strength, unshakable loyalty, and boundless love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and a steadfast friend. No matter the demands of his career, he never wavered in his commitment to those he cherished most.
Outside of his service, he embraced life with a passion for the outdoors. He found joy on the ski slopes and tranquility on the golf course. A true dog lover, he had a particular fondness for huskies, who were his faithful companions over the years and brought him much happiness.
Mike will be remembered for his unwavering sense of duty, his generous spirit, and the warmth he brought into every room. His legacy of service, love, and quiet heroism lives on in the lives he touched.
He is survived by his mother Shirley Lister, sister Amy Lister, daughter Amy Ritter, son-in-law Guillermo (Willie) Ruiz, grandchildren Cameron, Ian, Nathan and Sophia, great grandchild Anya, niece Hannah Mae and nephew Owen. He is preceded in death by his father Donald (Don) Lister and two sons Eddie Ritter and Christopher Lister.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made in his honor to St. Jude.
