Mildred Brown

Mildred Hargrow Brown, born September 30, 1934 in Wharton, TX to Alvin and Lottie Hargrow, went to rest among the angels in the peace of our Lord surrounded with love by her family on May 9, 2014 at 10:23AM in San Antonio, TX at the age of 79. She moved to El Paso, TX in 1952 where she resided until 2006 when she moved to San Antonio, TX to live with her daughter, Michelle Owens. While residing in El Paso, Mildred was very active in the community: she helped build First United Baptist Church under the stewardship of Rev. Albert Smith, and continued on as a faithful servant under the leadership of Minister Harrison Johnson Jr. While in El Paso, Mildred created a food pantry. She worked diligently with the schools and community leaders to feed more than 4000 people. She volunteered with the Domestic Abuse Response Team as well as the Child Crisis Center, and supported legislation of the CHIP Program. Mildred is the mother of six children: Joyce Hulen of Austin, TX, Michelle Owens of San Antonio, TX, Annette Brown of Austin, TX, Faye White of Arlington, TX, Terrance Brown of El Paso, TX, Barbara Ann Brown preceded her in death and rests with the angels; and son-in-law Atrell Owens of San Antonio, TX. Mildred leaves behind one brother, Ben Evans of Wharton, TX, six grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 6-8PM at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX 79904. Funeral Services will also be held at Sunset Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen East Cemetery, where she will rest next to the body of her daughter Barbara. Special thank you to Christus VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, Doctors Fischer, Hall, and Silva, Chaplain Bob, and the staff at Northeast Methodist Hospital San Antonio, TX.
