LTC (Retired) Nestor Asencio, 83, born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on Oct. 19, 1927 passed away on March 16, 2011. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for 24 years and was a member of The American Legion and MOAA. He was preceded in death in death by his daughter, Maritza Asencio Hartfield. He is survived by his wife, Maria Matilde Asencio; son, Nestor Asencio, Jr., daughter-in-law, Maria M. Asencio; four grandchildren, Marie Booth, Christopher Hartfield, Natalie M. Asencio and Christian A. Asencio; two step grandchildren: Vanessa Thomas and Family and Edna M. Castro and Family; and great grandchildren: Grace M. Booth and McKenna B. Booth; sister Elsie Bender; and brother, Anibal Asencio. The family wishes to thank Dr. George Imuro and staff of the 7th & 9th floors at William Beaumont Army Medical Center; staff of Choice Home & Hospice Care; and all our friends for their and support. Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 pm, Sunday, March 20, 2011 with a Vigil/Rosary to begin at 7:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 12:30 pm at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, located at 4800 Byron. Interment to follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
