Nicasio F. Cobos

July 12, 1945 — April 20, 2025

Nick Cobos was born and raised on a family farm in Fabens, Texas where he learned grit from his father, Carlos, compassion from his mother, Elena, and resilience from his five older siblings. He was drafted into the U.S. Army of the 1960s and stationed in Germany, and returned home to dedicate most of his professional life to serving and leading in El Paso’s schools.

Nick’s passion for education took him on an extraordinary journey from elementary school band director to school principal at Burges, Coronado, and Bowie High Schools. In retirement he served as the headmaster at St Clement’s Parish School, capping a career in which he influenced the lives of tens of thousands of El Paso’s students, teachers, and families across the city’s diverse communities.

Nick met and married the love of his life, Anne, in 1976 while they were teaching at neighboring schools. Nick and Anne were married for 48 years before she passed away in October; she reached Heaven’s Gates just six months before him. Together, they raised a family of three children—Mark, Andrew, and Christy—and were blessed with six grandchildren. Nick and Anne shared a deep and passionate faith in Christ, a faith that lives on in the many El Pasoans they led in Bible study groups and churches across the Sun City. Fittingly, Nick and Anne were reunited in Heaven on Easter Sunday.

Nick’s family invites all who knew and loved him to celebrate his life on Saturday, May 17th:

  • Service at Coronado Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m.
  • Reception at The Crossing (across from Coronado Baptist) at 11:00 a.m.
  • Burial with military honors at Restlawn Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

Attendees are invited to wear the colors of the school where Mr. Cobos served as their principal, in tribute to his decades of commitment to El Paso’s students, whether that be Burges, Coronado, or Bowie High Schools or Henderson Middle School.
