Reverend Otoniel Peña Luján died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 20, 2026. He was born on April 7, 1951 in Ciudad Juárez to Benito Peña Cortez and Petra Peña Luján.
Otoniel was one of the founding ministers of Misión Apostólica de la Fe en Cristo Jesús in El Paso, Texas in 1982 along with Brothers Ramón Arreola and Rafael Rivera. In 1988, he began pastoring the apostolic church in Roswell, New Mexico for 3 years, traveling to and from El Paso the entire time. Back in El Paso, he continued to serve the Misión Apostólica as minister and in various capacities ranging from secretary to treasurer. A gifted bible teacher, he spoke at conferences throughout the U.S. In 2000, he established the Asociación Apostólica de la Fe en Cristo Jesús, which he lovingly pastored until his illness advanced in 2023.
His ministry was defined by his love for God and his devout study of the bible. His faith granted him the optimism to enjoy each day’s blessings. His days were filled with jokes, laughter and an appreciation for nature.
He is survived by his children, Otni, Magdiely, Miriam Loreli, Edna Denise, and Amabel, along with grandchildren Kendall, Starlynn, Sebastian, Alejandra, Nova, Megan, Ryker, Ezra, and Mason. He is also survived by his sisters, Damaris Peña Luján and Maria Bilga Peña Luján, and 9 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Benito Peña Cortez (1955), his mother, Petra Peña Luján (2014), his twin Benito Peña Luján (1951), his sister, Immer Peña Luján (1958) his nephew, Sabdiel Gener Peña(1989) and his grandson, Otni Drake Johnson (2024), for whom he mourned dearly.
His legacy of faith and joy will live on in his family, his brothers and sisters in Christ and all who knew him
