Patricia (aka Patty) Gary, age 78, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 16, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister, and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Patty is preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph Kenny and Catherine Gertrude O’Leary. She is survived by her husband, Robert Johnson; her children, Kevin H. Gary (Heather) and Megan C. Gary (James McKenna); her siblings, Barbara O’Leary and John A. Kenny; as well as her grandchildren, Evelyn C. Gary, Lucas J. Gary, and Gabriel F. Gary. She is also survived by many extended family and friends who cherish and honor her memory, including her adopted family, Steve and Jennifer (Patty’s stepdaughter) Fischahs, and their children, Maddy, Connor, and Katherine.
Patty was known for her generosity and her magnetic personality. She was born in Brisbane, Australia, and lived all over the world, including Japan, Germany, and Italy. She held dual citizenship in the US and Australia. She was raised Catholic by her mom (aka Gerty) and attended Catholic schools for 12 years, including St. Scholastica Academy in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She earned her bachelor’s in fine arts in graphic design from Trenton State University in Trenton, NJ, and a masters in fine arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design, in Savannah, GA. She was the arts and crafts director and graphic designer (GS-11) at multiple military bases, including Fort Gordon, Fort Stewart, Fort Ord, Fort Belvoir, and Fort Bliss. Returning to her home in El Paso, she launched two successful businesses: the Art & Frame Manufacturing Company and the Sunland Winery. Both were infused with Patty’s business acumen, her artistic flare, her boundless enthusiasm, her dynamic personality, and the affection she had for her employees and customers.
She was a powerful life force who will live on well past her death. She will be tremendously missed!
A Funeral Mass will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, 400 W. Sunset Rd, El Paso, TX 79912. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery, 4900 McNutt Rd., Santa Teresa, NM 88008.
