Paula “Welita” Velasquez Vega, 101, passed peacefully on Monday, June 1st, 2015. She was the matriarch of the Vega Family leaving behind 5 living generations. Welita was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who was deeply devoted to her family. Born: August 5th, 1913, and educated in Houston, Texas. Preceded in death by her husband Jesus Vega and sons: infant Tomas, Teodoro, Roberto, and Rafael. Survived by her sons: Francisco (Aurora), Jesus Jr. (Rosa), Jose Angel (Lily), Susano ( + Yolanda), Juan (Rebeca), Tomas (+ Sofia), Daughters Guadalupe (Joe), and Natividad, also survived by 35 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren, 40 great-great grandchildren and 5 great-great-great grandchildren. Welita had many high points in her life time: obtaining her U.S. Citizenship was her utmost pride. Her ultimate pride was being the mother of 6 sons who honorably wore the military uniform of this country, serving in the Airborn, Korean War, Marines, Jungles of Panama, Vietnam War, and Honor Guard. She was equally proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren who served honorably in the Gulf Wars among the various military branches. Visitation: Thursday, June 4th from 5-9pm. Rosary: to be held at 7pm at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast. Funeral Mass: Friday, June 5th, at 11am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Burial to follow at Evergreen East.
