Peggy Dunn

December 18, 1944 — February 27, 2025

El Paso

Peggy L. Dunn, 80, of El Paso, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2025. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed.

Peggy was born in El Paso in 1944 to Louis and Christine Onick. Peggy was the eldest of Louis and Christine’s four children. She attended Irvin High School before getting her degree in education at UTEP, formerly Texas Western College. While there, Peggy was a proud member of the Golddiggers dance team. Peggy gave birth to her beloved daughter, Stacy, while in college. With the support of her parents, Peggy raised Stacy while going to school.

Peggy then met the love of her life, Jim Dunn, on a blind date while in college. Jim and Peggy were married on July 5, 1969. Their adored son, Jim, was born soon after to make them a family of four. Peggy and Jim spent their weekends fixing up their house, planting their gardens, grilling, listening to music with their cocktails, and entertaining family and friends. Peggy was an active volunteer at each of her children’s schools including being a crossing guard at Putnam Elementary, serving on the PTA, and working with the Coronado band. Peggy’s biggest joy in life was helping others and being a friend to all. She and Jim traveled the world, but her favorite memories were made around her kitchen table.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Onick and Christine Onick née Draper; her loving husband, James W. Dunn Jr.; her brother, Bobby Onick; her sister-in-law, Lee Weihrich; and her nephew, Michael Onick. Peggy leaves behind so, so many people who loved her. She is survived by her children, daughter Stacy Dunn Sherrill; son Jim Dunn and daughter-in-law Becky Dunn. She is survived by her grandchildren, the lights of her life, Maverick Sherrill and his wife Dakota, Emily Dunn and Patrick Dunn. She is also survived by her sister, Judie Grantham; her brother, Billy Onick and his wife Pam; and her sister-in-law, Karla Onick; her nieces Leslie Onick; Carrie Reyes (Angel); Amy Onick; Jennifer Burlington (Brandon); Sharon Nolan; Cindy Davis (Lee); and Judy King; and her nephew, David Grantham. She also leaves behind beloved cousins and dear friends who will cherish and honor her memory.
